# v1.5.5 — Know what you wrote

> Authorship shows which words are yours, Production Highlight and Style Check read your action lines, Focus gets its own menu, and PDF imports stop inventing characters.

## Highlights

The big one is **Authorship**: Inkwell now keeps track of which words you
typed, which came from Quill, and which you pasted in from somewhere else —
and can show you, at a glance, how much of a page is actually yours. It is
off until you turn it on, it never touches your file, and it never leaves
your Mac.

Alongside it, two new reading tools for your action lines. **Production
Highlight** tints the things a breakdown cares about — characters, props,
animals, vehicles, sounds. **Style Check** underlines the writing habits
that slow a page down, with a reason attached to each one.

And if you import from PDF, this release stops Final Draft's exports from
inventing characters that were never in the script.

## New

* **Authorship.** See which words are yours, which are Quill's, and which
  were pasted in. Turn the tint on from the Focus menu, and open the word
  count in the status bar for a breakdown by characters and percentage. Use
  **Mark As** in the right-click menu to correct anything Inkwell got wrong,
  and **Paste as Me** (⇧⌥⌘V) when you are pasting your own writing back in.
* **Production Highlight.** Tints characters, props, animals, vehicles and
  sounds inside action lines, so a page reads the way a breakdown reads.
  Each category has its own switch, and ⌃⇧⌘D turns the whole thing on and
  off. Nothing is written to your script — it is paint on the page, and
  exports never see it.
* **Style Check.** Dotted underlines under passive voice, adverbs,
  unfilmables, over-long action and speeches, and words you just repeated.
  Hover any one of them for the reason. Also switchable per category.
* **A Focus menu of its own.** Focus Mode (⌘D), how much stays lit — the
  paragraph, the element, or the scene — typewriter scrolling, and every
  overlay above, all in one place. The same menu is on the title bar, so you
  do not have to go to the menu bar to dim the page.
* **Back and Forward.** **Go ▸ Back** and **Go ▸ Forward** walk your jumps
  in order, so following an outline click or a search hit no longer loses
  your place.
* **Screen time in the status bar.** The estimated running time of the
  current scene, and of the whole script, without opening anything.
* **Icons in the menus.** Format, View, Go, Revision, Account and the
  right-click menu now carry symbols, so the item you want is easier to find
  at a glance.

## Improved

* **Your title page greets you.** Opening a script shows the title page
  rather than dropping you at line one, and clicking it opens the title-page
  editor.
* **Pasted text reads as pasted.** It now carries a cool two-tone tint
  instead of looking greyed out, so it is clearly marked without looking
  disabled.
* **Quill re-reads less.** When it needs to look at a scene again it reads
  that scene, not the whole screenplay, which makes long conversations about
  a long script noticeably quicker.
* **Character voice hints are yours to ask for.** The hints that flag
  dialogue reading unlike a character are now off unless you turn them on,
  and they live in the Focus menu with the other overlays. Writing someone
  out of character is often the point, and the app should not have an
  opinion about that uninvited.

## Fixed

* **PDF imports stop inventing characters.** Final Draft's PDF export
  overprints text to fake bold, which Inkwell was reading as real
  characters — so scripts arrived with doubled cues and people who do not
  exist. Those duplicates are now recognised and dropped.
* **Watermarks stay out of your script.** Text watermarks that run across a
  page, or down the length of one, are scrubbed on import instead of landing
  in the middle of your action.
* **Dialogue blocks survive the trip.** Importing from PDF, Final Draft or
  Fountain no longer splits a speech into fragments.
* **Character extensions survive Fountain import.** `JANE (V.O.)` stays
  `JANE (V.O.)`, and Inkwell stops adding a second `(CONT'D)` to a cue that
  already had one.
* **Undo puts your selection back.** Typing over a selection and then
  undoing restores the whole selection, not just the caret.
* **Dual dialogue gets its colors.** Character tinting now reaches both
  columns.
* **Find's character filter matches the sidebar.** Filtering by character in
  Find now normalises cue names the same way the sidebar does, so it finds
  the lines you expect.
