Inkwell Reader (also referred to as Sides) is the official iOS companion app for iPhone and iPad. Built specifically for writers, actors, directors, and crew, it allows you to carry your screenplays in your pocket without sacrificing industry-standard formatting.

Quill AI on iOS (Read-Only)

Bring your creative assistant with you. When you sign in to your Inkwell account, you can access your Quill chat threads right alongside your screenplay.

• Creative Partner: Ask Quill about character motivation, scene pacing, or theme ideas as you read.
• Read-Only Safety: To protect your script’s integrity while on the go, Quill chat on iOS is read-only. It can reference your script and suggest improvements, but it will never write changes directly to your active .ink file.
• Cross-Device Sync: Your Quill conversation history automatically syncs between your Mac and iOS devices.

Getting Started

1. Download the App

Search for Inkwell Reader on the App Store (available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later).

2. Import Your Scripts

You can open scripts in Inkwell Reader in two ways:

• Files app: Tap any .ink, .fountain, or .pdf file in the iOS Files app, and choose Open in Inkwell Reader.
• In-App Picker: Open Inkwell Reader and tap the folder icon to browse and open files.

3. Generate “Sides” from your Mac

If you are working on a production set and need physical or digital “Sides” (the specific pages being shot on a given day):

1. In the Mac application, open your script and choose File → Generate Sides…
2. Select the character to highlight.
3. Configure highlight options (bold cues, yellow highlights, or margin bars) to make the lines stand out.
4. Export the resulting PDF directly to your iOS device via AirDrop or iCloud Drive to read it in Inkwell Reader.

Customize Your Reading Experience

Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner of the Reader screen to adjust:

• Font Size: Pinch-to-zoom on the screenplay page, or use the font size slider in Settings.
• App Themes:
  • Paper: High-contrast black text on a clean white page.
  • Sepia: Warm, low-strain background for reading in sunlight.
  • Focus: Minimal layout with soft gray backgrounds.
  • Midnight: Pitch-black theme designed for dark rooms or night shoots.
