Getting Started
1. Download the App
Search for Inkwell Reader on the App Store (available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later).2. Import Your Scripts
You can open scripts in Inkwell Reader in two ways:- Files app: Tap any
.ink,.fountain, or.pdffile in the iOS Files app, and choose Open in Inkwell Reader. - In-App Picker: Open Inkwell Reader and tap the folder icon to browse and open files.
3. Generate “Sides” from your Mac
If you are working on a production set and need physical or digital “Sides” (the specific pages being shot on a given day):- In the Mac application, open your script and choose File → Generate Sides…
- Select the character to highlight.
- Configure highlight options (bold cues, yellow highlights, or margin bars) to make the lines stand out.
- Export the resulting PDF directly to your iOS device via AirDrop or iCloud Drive to read it in Inkwell Reader.
Customize Your Reading Experience
Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner of the Reader screen to adjust:- Font Size: Pinch-to-zoom on the screenplay page, or use the font size slider in Settings.
- App Themes:
- Paper: High-contrast black text on a clean white page.
- Sepia: Warm, low-strain background for reading in sunlight.
- Focus: Minimal layout with soft gray backgrounds.
- Midnight: Pitch-black theme designed for dark rooms or night shoots.
