Highlights
The first minute with Inkwell is new. Setup is a single screen: pick a look and start writing. Inkwell then opens Your First Screenplay, a short scene you edit as you go, with Quill open beside it. This release is also a big step for accessibility. VoiceOver now tells you what kind of line you are on, every button has a name, and you can do everything in the outline from the keyboard.New
- Your First Screenplay. A one-page scene in an all-night diner that teaches scene headings, dialogue, and the Tab and Enter keys while you edit it. It ends by inviting you to ask Quill for a second opinion, then to delete it all and write your own.
- Your free week of Quill Pro starts with your first question. There is no button to find. Ask Quill anything and you have 500 credits for seven days, no card needed.
- A simpler setup. One screen: choose a theme from little page previews, decide whether to share anonymous usage data, and start writing. Opening a script from Finder on first launch still takes you straight to that script.
Improved
- VoiceOver. Inkwell announces the kind of line you are on (scene heading, action, character, dialogue, parenthetical, transition) as you move through the script or change it with Tab. Toolbar buttons, sidebar tabs, the find bar, and the status bar all read out what they are and whether they are on.
- Move scenes without dragging. In the outline, VoiceOver’s Move Up and Move Down actions reorder scenes and acts, as one step you can undo.
- Reduce Motion. With Reduce Motion turned on in System Settings, panels, the find bar, and typewriter scrolling snap into place instead of sliding.
- Sepia is easier to read. Notes, synopses, section headers, and the quieter text in the sidebars are a touch darker or lighter so they read clearly, without changing the look.
- Clearer buttons and small print throughout first launch and the Quill panel, in every theme.
Fixed
- Moving a scene in the outline or on the Beat Board no longer leaves its synopsis or notes behind, or splits a line, and moving the last scene of an act lands it where you expect.
- Pressing Undo right after opening or reverting a script could paste text from the previous script, or close Inkwell. Opening a script now starts it with a clean history.
- The Beat Board’s “No scenes yet” message is readable in Sepia.
